Double Page Spread Drafts

Double Page Spread Drafts

First draft
For my first draft I opened up a new blank document on Indesign. I then had to format the template differently to what I learnt before. For example I need to start with 3 pages and add in 1-3 collumms each. From then, I was able to start designing my double page spread.
I first started with the rectangle boxes around the border. I did this by drawing up a rectangle and filling it with pink. I then used the rotate tool to rotate the rectangle across the page, the same as which I did on the contents page, so it was more convectional and flowed better throughout.  I then had to draw two more rectangle boxes and fill them in white and bring the to the front (over the top of the pink) so that I would be able to add in text without seeing a huge rectangle in the background.
My next idea was to create more of a focus around the main cover story, as this would normally be convectional in an existing pop magazine. I did this by drawing a pink ellipse and also rotating -18 degrees. Within the ellipse I also drew a yellow circle and placed this in the top centre with a drop shadow. This convection is also shown in my contents page.
The last stage for my construction was adding smaller convections in such as the web address and page number which was also featured on my contents page and therefore i was able to highlight and copy these into the document.
Second Draft
For the next stage in my construction I decided to first place in my main image. I decide to chose this one that was originally going to be on my front cover, however I felt it was more appropriate being on the double page spread because of the amount of space i was able to show the full image and give it justification on the body language you may have otherwise lost.
The next stage was mainly text based, with my inserting my article on my popstar that had been previously written. I decided to still incorporate my colour scheme, so decided that I would used the orange as the question of my article and the response would be in black. This gave the double page spread more design and could be followed more easily. I also slightly changed the font, and made it bold just so it stood out more.
For my main cover title/masthead I wanted something bold and also a pull quote from my article as this is something prominent in all pop magazines. I decided to use white, as it looked good against the pink and also felt that black would be too harsh as was already used in the article its self. However, i decide to change the question marks to black as I thought this gave it more of a design element.
